With the explosion of Internet users—both consumers and companies—the pool of available IP addresses supplied by version 4 of the protocol (IPv4) is quickly running out. The primary benefit of the new version—IPv6—is to greatly expand this address pool from the range provided by the current 32 bits to that provided by 128 bits. Although companies can for the time being get away with IPv4-only support, demand for IPv6 will grow, and data centers must be prepared. | |||
